Description
In July, we had a great response to our Making of a Book Workshop and y'all asked for more. So, we've developed this four month long pilot program called The Creative Book Club to explore books in a new way. We'll meet once a month through the end of the year, from 5 - 7pm in the Mathewson - IGT Knowledge Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. Meet-up dates are September 23rd, October 21st, November 18th, and December 16th. At these sessions, we'll learn more about books as we study their structure and the craft of creating them. The first four sessions will be used to create a "junk journal" fabricated from an old book or if you prefer, completely from scratch. We'll learn to craft signatures, create a text block, design a cover, and put the whole thing together. Then you'll use your creativity to add depth and character to your journal /book by adding artistic elements using a variety of tools. You'll have your new journal ready in time to gift for the holidays (if you're able to part with it)! A survey of interested students indicated that they would like the class materials supplied for a reasonable fee. So each session will have a supply fee ($10 - $20 range) but the meet-up is otherwise free. A couple of notes: We would love to have you attend each monthly meeting but understand that life is busy. Keep in mind that you'll likely need at least three meetings to finish your journal. For now, we're limiting the group size to 15 to make sure everyone has a chance to connect, ask questions, ample workspace, etc. All that to say that when you sign up for our first meeting, please understand that you're joining the group for the next four months. At the end of the four months, we'll decide as a group if we would like to continue (and no obligation to continue at that point, even if the group decides to keep meeting). If you have any questions about the group, please email Robin at [email protected]. Hope you can join us!
