The Construction Laborer is responsible for both skilled and unskilled work in the performance of tasks involving physical labor at building, environmental remediation, and heavy construction projects, trench excavations, shop work, and demolition sites. Must provide a current drivers license with no DUI/OUI's in the last 5 years. EXPERIENCE: Experience in excavation and underground utilities preferred. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards. • Read and interpret plans, instructions, and specifications to determine work activities. • Lift and carry objects and materials of various weights up to 100 pounds. • Repetitive climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and reaching over head. • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, and compact and level earth to grade specifications, using picks, shovels, pneumatic tampers/compactors, and rakes. • Load, unload, and identify building materials, scaffolding, fencing, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans and specifications. • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures. • Grind, scrape, sand, or polish surfaces such as concrete, metal, aluminum, or wood, using abrasive tools or machines. • Install sewer, water, and storm drain pipes, using pipe-laying machinery and laser guidance equipment. • Tend pumps, compressors, and generators to provide power for tools, machinery, and equipment, or to heat and move materials such as asphalt. • Lubricate, clean, and repair machinery, equipment, and tools. • Wash trucks & equipment. Other duties as assigned. Valid Alaska drivers license. Must be physically capable of heavy manual labor, sometimes under unfavorable to extreme weather conditions. Lifting required on a daily basis.
