Need an experienced mechanic that works on OLD cars

Hi. My dad has a 1948 Chrysler Windsor in good shape. However we need BETTER brakes. Were taking it on a LONG Route 66 trip and MUST have GREAT brakes. I did have the pads replaced. BUT they are still not good. Takes too long to bring it to a stop! I have gone online and saw where you can upgrade the system. Not sure what the cost would be. I saw different amounts posted. But if someone is qualified and has experience doing this PLEASE contact us! Thank you so much!
