Description

Preregistration is required to ensure proper staffing for events. Registration for each event will close 24-hours before the event begins. During spring and early summer, we will walk the Olympia Port Peninsula starting from the Estuarium and making a loop. We will be stopping at different areas to observe birding behaviors and discuss the impacts humans have on waterfront property and local bird habitats. During late summer and early fall, we will start from the Estuarium heading to Capitol Lake and West Bay before looping back. We will be stopping along the way to observe how birds have adapted to live in urban areas and talk about how Olympia’s estuaries have changed and the effect it has had on bird populations. No birding experience required! The walk will be 2 hours and cover approximately 2 miles, so don't forget your comfy walking shoes. Please bring your own binoculars, however we do have a few to spare. The Bird Walk tour also includes a tour of our Estuarium facility. The Estuarium's Bird Walk tours are a recurring event that will take place every other 4th Sunday of the month. As of April 2022, we have instituted a new low-income discount that offers free registration to individuals or families with an EBT card. To utilize this new program, email [email protected] with a photo of your EBT card and a valid ID.
