The Providence Mandolin Orchestra Announces Open Auditions Dates: Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022 6:00 to 9:00 PM Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM Location: Studio One RI Dance Complex 85 Industrial Circle, Studio 4102 Lincoln, RI 02865 Open Auditions For the Providence Mandolin Orchestra The Providence Mandolin Orchestra is looking for players who are interested in rehearsing and performing classical and contemporary music for orchestra. The instruments in the orchestra include mandolin, mandola or octave mandolin, mandocello, classical guitar and string bass. If you are interested in playing with a committed, well-established community group playing interesting original music, you should consider the Providence Mandolin Orchestra. Requirements for membership: The ability to read music and to perform at least at an intermediate level on the instrument. This includes: 1. Knowledge of basic scales 2. Ability to adequately perform a sample piece (music provided prior to audition) 3. Basic sight-reading, including melody and rhythm. You must supply your own instrument. We have openings in every section to be filled. Persons selected to join the orchestra at must commit to weekly rehearsals (September through June) and perform in our concerts three to four times a year. Persons who are unable to fulfill audition requirements but express a serious desire to improve may be invited to join the orchestra as a ‘rehearsal-only’ member. Simplified pars may be available. Violinists and guitarists who are interested in the mandolin are encouraged to audition. Mandolin family instruments are tuned in fifths and would be familiar and easy to learn for most bowed string performers. Positions also open for classical guitar and bass.
