Member Dan Tappmeyer has a second home in Antigua, Guatemala. Through his activities with the local Rotary Club there, and other contacts, he has helped us establish this project in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Antigua, school administrators, and the families of children at the school. Our Club has provideed funding for different projects within the school. The Rotary International South Central Texas District 5840 has provided matching funds for some of the projects. Labor is provided by the local Rotary Club and the parents. Jose Texidoz is a member of the the Antigua Club. He visits us when he is in San Antonio. He was at last week's meeting with Dan. Programs are presented, usually by outside organizations that help inform those at a meeting about the community or organization and Its services. Many times these programs are provided by social service agencies, government officials, businesses, or organizations in San Antonio. The programs are not political or religious or sales-oriented in nature. Admission is free. Lunch is $16. Come and meet the community service volunteers at Northwest Rotary Club, members of Rotary International, the largest service organization in the world. Some of the Service projects supported by the Rotary Club of San Antonio, Northwest , and its 501C3 Charitable Fund are: * Center for Refugee Services for legal immigrant settlement, currently helping legal immigrants from Afghanistan and Ukraine. * Guatelmala project, which helps orphans and/ or school kids with supplies, food and school construction needs, partnering with a Rotary Cub in Antigua, Guatemala and parents of the school children. * The CHANGE Program, assists Dellview Elementary, a Title 1 School, with honoring children every nine weeks and at year end for improvements in attendance and conduct, demonstrating leadership to others in school. * Salvation Army Children's Shelter support, assist the children places in shelter in San Antonio with supplies, uniforms, and holiday celebrations. * Scholarships: the Northwest Rotary Club Charitable Foundation funds scholarships every year for outstanding and students with needs we help with. Scholarships are available for college, university, or vocational trade training. * Disaster Relief for communities hit by significant disasters. * Rotary International Foundation supports many initiatives worldwide, like programs for health, hunger, and humanity, like polio vaccines for children, and malaria treatment/vaccine, and covid vaccines in 3rd world nations. Currently, Rotary International is very involved in the evacuation and assistance from Ukraine to other host countries, providing food, transportation, clothing, medicine, and shelter, temporary and permanent.
