Description
I am an intermediate guitar player. Several years ago I organized bluegrass-oriented jam sessions in Rosendale, first at the community center and then at the bandshell. I’d like to have a go at starting them up again. If interested, please send me your email address and let me know what instrument(s) you play, and questions if you have them. I’ll send out an invitation email once we’ve got a few interested folks on board. I’m interested in finding players of banjo, fiddle, mandolin, dobro, bass, and singers with a deep repertoire. My aim is for the first jam to be held in the outdoor bandshell in Rosendale (in the back of the public parking lot) on a weekend afternoon in September.
My term for the musical style is “Casual Bluegrass”. Here are some guidelines (not meant to discourage anyone from attending, more to make sure that what we’re doing aligns with your interests before you make the trip out). The style is primarily traditional bluegrass. Other styles and interpretations from blues, old time, rock, country, are welcome but you should be familiar with the bluegrass genre and have an awareness of what tunes can be made to fit into that style. A general rule for the jam session is that if you come with a song to play, you should be able to teach the chord structure to the other musicians in 5 minutes or less, otherwise your tune is too complicated. Skill level is intermediate. We don’t play at breakneck speed but we aren’t beginners either.
If I get many musicians responding I will pick a date and send out an announcement. If I only get a few interested musicians, I’ll query the group to find a date that works best. If this jam works out the first time we’ll see if we can keep it going, at least until the weather is too cold.
