Description
JOIN US TO LEARN ABOUT THE FASCINATING TRADITION OF DIA DE LOS MUERTOS (Day of the Dead) ALTARS, AND LEARN HOW TO CREATE YOUR OWN FROM CHERYL JENKINES, - the artistic creator of Hendley Market's annual offrenda honoring those who have departed this life Find ou about the significance of these altars and the flowers and other items that decorate them. Participants are even welcome to bring photos of their departed loved ones (including pets!) to include on the Hendley Altar. THEN TAKE A STROLL ALONG THE STRAND FOR A GHOST TOUR WITH THE AUTHOR OF GHOSTS OF GALVESTON, KATHLEEN MACA as she shares stories of some of the island's most famous ghosts. Spirits of Civil War soldiers, 1900 Storm victims and even a murderess dwell in the buildings and along the street, never quite able or willing to depart from their beloved Galveston. We'll be walking at a leisurely pace, taking time to see if you can capture photos of spirits through windows and on the street like so many have before. But don't be surprised if someone unseen tugs on your sleeve, or you feel a chill on this fall night...it's just their way of saying "hello." We'll meet at Hendley Market for the altar demonstration at 6:00 p.m., and proceed for our tour from there. A PORTION OF THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS EVENT WILL BE DONATED TO THE FRIENDS OF ROSENBERG LIBRARY. Please note: Please wear comfortable walking shoes, and be aware of curbs and uneven walking paths. The Strand is well lit, so flashlights aren't necessary but you are welcome to bring one if you like. No video or audio recording allowed during the tour. STILL PHOTOS ARE ENCOURAGED-you never know who or what you might capture! Guide takes no responsibility for injuries incurred during tour. There are limited restroom opportunities at this time on the Strand, so it is encouraged to "take care of business" ahead of time. Feel free to bring your beverages along! Tour will be given rain or shine except in the case of a severe thunderstorm. Ticket fee is non-refundable.
