In homage to this tradition, Civil Conversations is a community event designed to help people engage in productive civic dialogue that pushes beyond party lines.
________________
The theme of our September event is "Education."Attendees will have the chance to engage around prompts like:In what ways did your education experience serve you well?In what ways did your education experience make your life harderWhat do you think separates a "good" school from a "bad" school? What is your vision of an ideal education system? ________________
Civil Conversations is not about debate, but about listening. The goal of this event is not to change others' opinions, but to broaden your own perspective of the world by learning how others in your community see it.Prompts and dialogue structures will be thoughtfully facilitated to foster a deeper curiosity about—and understanding of—others' core sociopolitical experiences, concerns, hopes, and values.
However, in the process, you may indeed find that minds are changed—perhaps even your own.
