DETROIT, MI — Two people are dead after a six-car crash that occurred in the early morning hours Saturday on Interstate 94 in Detroit, according to state police.
The incident took place just before 2:30 a.m. on the eastbound interstate near Mount Elliott Street, police said.
A Ford Fusion crashed into the center median and was rear-ended by a Kia, according to police. The Kia came to rest on the right shoulder and the Fusion stopped on its side, blocking the road's left lane, police said.
The driver of a Dodge Charger stopped to help, according to police, but a Jeep Liberty in the left lane hit both occupants of the Fusion — leaving them dead — and came to rest against the Fusion.
A Kia SUV then swiped the Fusion and Charger before stopping against the right median wall, police said, and a GMC SUV rear-ended the Charger.
A male and female who had been in the Fusion were pronounced dead on the scene, and the driver who hit them showed signs of impairment and was arrested, according to police. The driver of the Kia SUV was taken to a hospital, police said. The crash remains under investigation, according to police.
