Grab your friends & join us for the First Annual Gears & Beers BR Charity Bike Ride/Pub Crawl! A collaboration with local restaurants and bars along the Perkins Road corridor and benefiting Front Yard Bikes and their ongoing mission to cater to Baton Rouge's youth through it's bike, garden & welding programs. We will depart from the Perkins Road Community Park and cycle our way through neighborhoods of the Southdowns area, along the LSU Lakes and back, stopping for socializing at Zippy's, The Bulldog and Solou! This is a 21yr old and up event and each participant will receive a T-Shirt to proudly promote your participation as well as coupons for refreshments to use at each location. Each establishment reserves the right to verify legal drinking age. We encourage safe biking, and those that choose to participate in this event will be doing so at his/her own risk. In addition to the registration fee, participants may so choose to make an additional donation the day of the event to Front Yard Bikes! More About Front Yard Bikes: Front Yard Bikes is a community bike shop and youth workforce development program that focuses on teaching participants of all ages how to fix and maintain bikes, urban gardening, cooking, and welding. It's designed as a drop-in program that allows new youth to come every day. Bike Program - Students can learn fundamentals with our earn-a-bike program, earh high school credit through our bike mechanic certification class, get a job through our blue apron intern program, or just come along for the ride on one of our community bike rides. Garden Program - Allows students a deeper appreciation of the food that nourishes their bodies by allowing them to take part in the process. Students who work in the garden can take home fresh produce and our garden-to-table classes help students understand how to utilize the food we grow. Welding Program - Allow students to take the next step and learn new skills with their hands. We offer an introductory welding program and also have a partnership with BRCC and the JAG program to allow more serious students to get advanced training with the goal to become certified welders and fabricators.
