Description

This combined format competition for youth climbers will be an opportunity for athletes to show off their rope climbing, bouldering, and speed climbing and will be split between Summit Plano and our Carrollton Training Center. Registration includes a raffle ticket for each competitor. The raffle will take place following the competition on Sunday and awards will be sent out Sunday evening via all communication channels. COMPETITION FORMATBouldering will be an onsight format. Climbers will have four boulders per category, with four minutes to climb each boulder, four minutes of rest, and thirty seconds of transition time in between each climb. Climbers will not be able to watch their peers climb the boulders. Ropes will be an onsight format. Climbers will have one route and will only have one attempt on the route. Each climber will be given a random placement in the running order and all categories will receive a four-minute route preview before their climbing. Those in the Recreational categories 1-4 will ONLY top rope. Those in the Advanced categories 1-2 will also ONLY top rope. Those in the Advanced categories 3-4 will lead climb. Athletes will recieive two runs for speed directly after they rope climb, climbers will not receive warmup runs. Those in the Advanced categories 2-4 will compete on the official IFSC speed route. All other categories will compete on a non-IFSC route. Athletes in Recreational Category 3-4 that are trying out for Team Texas will be required to complete two runs on the IFSC route in addition to their standard judged runs.CATEGORIESDIFFICULTY Athletes will choose whether they want to compete in the Recreational category or the Advanced category. All Team Texas climbers are required to compete in the Advanced category. Team Summit athletes are required to compete in the Recreational Category.Athletes on other teams and climbers not affiliated with any team can choose. If you have questions about which category your climber should compete in, reach out to your coach! GENDERThen they will be broken up by gender (male/female). Team Texas Athletes who competed in the USAC 2022 National Championship are exempt from re-trying out.If you are not currently on Team Texas and would like to be evaluated for the tryout, select YES when prompted in the checkout process as well as if you are trying out for the East Team(Plano/Carrollton), West Team (Fort Worth/Grapevine), or interested in either.Team Texas tryouts happen in three tiers. This competition serves as the 1st tier and athletes may be selected for further tiers of the tryout.Decision emails will be sent via email in the week following the competition.
