Crashed Boat Sinks Morning Commute Along I-290 In Worcester

WORCESTER, MA — State police say an odd collision and many onlookers caused traffic delays along I-290 Friday morning. Just after 8:15 a.m., MassDOT reported that the left lanes on both sides of I-290 near Lake Quinsigamond were blocked due to multiple crashes. The crash involved a trailer hauling a boat, causing an onlooker from the other side of the highway to collide with another driver. "Curiosity about first crash likely caused the second," state police said. The two crashes caused long delays, backing up traffic as far as Shrewsbury and to the I-190 interchange. Both crashes were cleared by around 9:30 a.m., according to MassDOT.
