Germany, Norway, Iceland, Austria, France, Poland, Greece, Hungary, Slovenia, Czech Republic. All of these countries offer free higher education for all citizens who have the aptitude to attend. Some even offer free tuition to non-citizens. India's higher education is virtually free. This is how it should be, in civilized societies. It is just. It is fair. And it is a tremendous benefit to these countries (all countries) to have a well-educated population. Why do many Americans take out college loans? Because it is their only choice, if they want to get educated. Every motivated American with the mental ability to attend college should be able to do so. Attending college should not leave former students with a giant, crippling albatross around their necks. This is probably why debt cancellation is such a popular idea in the United States. Realistically, $10,000 does not go nearly far enough.
