This organization is near and dear to my heart. I lost my Mother and want to do whatever I can to support and be there for young girls/boys who have lost a parent and need a mentor or resources to deal with their grief. I would never have made it through my situation without a strong support system.
empowerHER® was formed in 2013 with a very specific mission—to empower, support and connect girls and young women who have experienced the loss of their mothers. Founder Cara Belvin was nine years old when her mother died of breast cancer and formed EmpowerHER after recognizing a need in the community to support this vulnerable population. empowerHER is a true pioneer in children’s bereavement and serves girls of mother loss in a volunteer-driven, community-based, and non-therapeutic model. empowerHER events offer peer support and a caring community, reminding the girls they are not alone in their grief. Additionally, empowerHER offers a mentor program with positive role models for year-round support. All programs remain at no charge to the family.
