Description

We know that the status quo is both immoral and unsustainable. The five years since Harvey have shown that we need a new standard of disaster recovery and disaster preparedness. To truly recover, we need to fundamentally shift how our society prioritizes and distributes power and resources. Although our community has been forgotten and neglected we are still here, and we are ready to lead the way to a just recovery. On the 5th Anniversary of Hurricane Harvey, we invite you to join flood survivors and community organizers for a memorial of loss, visioning for the future, and celebration of strength. If you were personally impacted by Hurricane Harvey, please bring a physical item or artifact of the storm to participate in an interactive art piece. This event is hosted by West Street Recovery and the Northeast Action Collective with support from the Houston Climate Justice Museum, Harvey Forgotten Survivors Caucus, and Artists Willow Curry and Kill Joy. The event will take place in the main gallery of the historic Deluxe Theater in Fifth Ward, from 5:45 - 9:30 pm on Saturday September 3rd.
