Members of the Government Canyon Activities Committee welcome anyone interested in our feathered friends for a birding outing at the Natural Area. Learn about the fun and excitement of birding, including tips on using binoculars, cameras, field guides and sound recordings. Bring your own equipment or let us know if we can loan you a pair of binoculars when you make your reservation.
Who is Invited: Open to ages 12 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations ; no pets please.
Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike and limited to the first 8 that register. Registration opens on Saturday, two weeks prior to the event, and closes at noon, the Thursday before the event. Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply. The Natural Area can be very busy! To ensure entrance and save time at the Fee Booth please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is NOT the same as making a program reservation.

When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 7:45AM. Meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM. Plan ahead, as the Natural Area often experiences heavy visitation and wait time at the Fee Booth.
What to Wear & Bring: Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes for hiking, no sandals or open-toed footwear.
Details: This outing will make use of a paved road and the accessible terrain alongside it, with mild elevation gain along the way.
