North Carolina Native, Dorien Dotson is a well versed musician in many genres, styles, and settings. Studying Jazz at North Carolina Central University, Dotson bridges many aspects of the music from our predecessors, and the sound of musical evolution today. Dotson has worked with many music giants such as Branford Marsalis, Delfeayo Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Lalah Hathaway, YoungBullMusic, Nation Zamar, Antonio Hart, Lakecia Benjamin, Ethan Iverson, Jimmy Heath, and many more. Dotson co-leads several local bands in the Triangle-area and is a band leader of a newly formed coalition : “Fruits of Our Labor” . This band is a powerhouse of talent which consist of bassist Butler Knowles, guitarist Andy Blair, pianist Brandon Shamar, and drummer Dorien Dotson. We are bonded by brotherhood and the drive to be “true” to the music, and to always understand that we shall never take our craft for granted. Our motto is, “we do not perform as a hobby, but as a living/career”
