What is a Safe Rest Village (SRV)? Safe Rest Villages are transitional, managed, outdoor shelters that provide a place for people experiencing houselessness to reside. In these villages, residents typically have access to behavioral health and case management services to address their varying individual needs. Who are we? We are Cultivate Initiatives. We collectively work alongside those who have been marginalized and underserved to empower individuals and communities through an inclusive range of services and support in East Portland. We build communities from the inside out through community engagement and action, workforce development, outreach, community healthcare services, and alternative housing. Our safe rest village located in SE Portland is currently under development and is projected to be operating by mid October 2022. How will our SRV be different? We’ve been researching and studying other SRV’s around the country and have learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t. We’ve decided to take an entirely different approach once the individuals are housed in the community. We will be placing a huge emphasis on community engagement, offering various classes, life-skill groups, exercise sessions, job fairs, recovery support meetings and creative art forums of all kinds. What we’re seeking: We are seeking volunteers to help lead the activities mentioned above!! We’re looking for anyone who has experience or who is interested in leading art groups, yoga classes, cooking classes, creative writing sessions, resume development, etc. At this time we’re also open to ideas if you have or feel like you could provide something we haven’t thought of. The commitments can range anywhere from daily, weekly, bi-weekly to monthly. These volunteer gigs could potentially lead to being paid gigs depending on their success. You would have support from staff at all times during your sessions/classes. Please email me if you’re interested so that we can set up a time to meet and speak further.
