Street Sweeper Operator Under general supervision, operates motorized street sweeping equipment and special vehicles in cleaning streets, gutters and parking lots in designated districts; services and makes adjustment to motor sweepers in the field; and performs related work as required. The following duties are typical for positions in this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related duties not listed here: 1. Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staffs. 2. Operates a motor sweeper in sweeping streets, gutters and parking lots on an assigned route; controls the sprinkling system and fills the tank periodically at the hydrant. 3. Performs routine maintenance of assigned street sweeping equipment; inspects equipment daily to ensure proper operating condition; repairs minor sweeper equipment malfunctions; cuts and removes foreign objects, such as rope, string, and rags from the sweeping mechanism; makes adjustments of broom and chair wear; replaces brooms when necessary; cleans motor sweeper and trucks. 4. Assists in storm control activities such as the placing of sandbags and barricades; picks up litter in inclement weather; lifts, moves and positions heavy tools, objects, supplies and equipment. 5. Prepares and maintains simple forms, records and reports on vehicle usage. 6. Routinely adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards City and Department goals. 7. Performs related work as required GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge of: 1.Appropriate safety precautions and procedures; 2.Operation and routine maintenance of street sweepers; 3.Basic record keeping techniques. Ability to: 1.Make field emergency repairs and minor adjustments to the equipment; 2.Perform basic heavy manual labor if needed; 3.Operate automotive and mechanical equipment requiring good motor coordination and strength; 4.Detect needed mechanical equipment through visual inspection and operating sounds of equipment; 5.Follow a prescribed route; 6.Maintain basic records on vehicle usage; 7.Understand and carry out oral and written instructions; 8.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; 9.Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Minimum Qualifications: 1.Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, and one year of heavy equipment operation or one year of experience driving a street sweeper. 2.Must have reliable transportation to get to the company yard located in Riverside on La Sierra Avenue. 3.Must have a clean Driving Record. 4.Must have flexible hours, 5.California Driver License Class C Position Available Details: Street Sweeper Operator position is part time with high potential for up to 40 hours a week.
