Description
Hip Hop culture has deep roots in Lynn, Massachusetts and the stories from the local Hip Hop community will be highlighted as part of an interactive exhibit and free show commemorating its identity in Lynn. The event will take place on Sunday, September 18th with festivities beginning at 11am at the Lynn Museum where the official opening of the Lynn Hip Hop Exhibit opens to the public. The exhibit will run from September 18th through December 16th and will include interactive elements such as a DIY recording studio for museum goers to drop a beat or rhyme. Photos of artists and defining moments will be on display along with artwork done by Lynn artists. The room will be themed to look like a bedroom recording studio resembling a DIY studio of a Hip Hop artist from Lynn. Excerpts from an upcoming documentary produced by Grind House Recordings on the story of Lynn Hip Hop will play on loop. A trailer for the documentary can be seen here. Culture Talks, a series of discussions produced by Wreck Shop Movement will be held in the main space of the Lynn Museum at 1pm. A panel discussion on the unification of Hip Hop in communities such as Lynn, Brockton and other parts of the country will be a central theme of the discussion. The festivities continue in the afternoon at Frederick Douglas Park with the Keep Moving Forward Festival from 2-8pm with performances by Lynn Hip Hop artists. Local legends The Tragic Allies will be headlining and performing together for the first time in a decade in the heart of the city they are from, and have contributed greatly to the culture. Co-headlining the show is Keep Moving Forward aka KMF, the Lynn Hip Hop group the festival is named after. KMF has been a prominent group in promoting the Lynn Hip Hop scene. The festival is free of charge and with a $5 suggested donation for the Lynn Hip Hop Exhibit. A beer garden area powered by the Bent Water Brewing tap truck will be available to 21+ attendees. The celebration kicks off September 12th with a livestream performance by KMF that will be streamed through the Essex County Community Foundation to promote the September 18th festival and exhibit.
