In collaboration with Friends of Alta and GreenLatinos, Latino Outdoors invites you to join us on a family-friendly wildflower hike on Saturday, September 10! Este tranqui 1.5 mile hike will meander though the Albion Basin Meadow lo más alto de Little Cottonwood Canyon, con puntos de aprender sobre las wildflowers, creek health, and fair transportation access para disfrutar en nuestra tierra pública. Special activities for niños, lunch, snacks, and transportation to and from Albion Basin is generously provided by Friends of Alta. To join us on this relaxing morning in Alta, please RSVP by Monday September 5. Transportation: Please indicate in the RSVP form if you would like to join the group vanpool to ride to and from the hike. We will be meeting at the West Valley Central Station at 8:45 AM, and departing to Alta at 9:00 AM. The address of the West Valley Central Station is 2750 West 3590 South, West Valley City, UT. The station is accessible by the Green Line TRAX, bus, and there is parking available. To return, we will be departing Alta at 2:00 PM and will arrive to West Valley Central Station between 2:45 and 3:00 PM. If you plan on driving yourself to Albion Basin, please arrive by 9:45 AM. FAQ What should I bring? We recommend wearing closed toed shoes, a hat, water bottle and bringing a rain jacket just in case of inclement weather. Consider bringing a small mochila to carry your belongings. This hike is on well-maintained trails appropriate for tennis shoes. Is the hike route suitable for people in wheelchairs, or people pushing strollers? Unfortunately, the hike's terrain will not accommodate people in wheelchairs or strollers. People needing such accommodations are welcome to come and enjoy the views from the roadside, and enjoy lunch with us after the hike. What ages can join this hike? This hike is suitable for people of all ages. Hikers should be able to walk 1.5 miles on low-gradient trails. Can I bring my dog? Dogs are not permitted in Little Cottonwood Canyon to protect our water quality. Over 80% of the Wasatch Front's water comes from these mountains! What is the hiking route? The route goes through the Albion Basin of Little Cottonwood Canyon in Alta, Utah. We will hike across U.S. National Forest Lands, which are managed by Alta Ski Resort in the winter. The route starts at the Albion Base lodge in Alta and will wind through the meadows above. A route map will be emailed to participants Do I have to ride to and from Alta with the group? No, you are welcome to carpool with your friends/ family in your own vehicle. Why can’t I take public transit directly to Little Cottonwood Canyon? That is a great question we urge you to take up with the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT), the U.S. Forest Service, and your elected officials. The current transportation plan for Little Cottonwood Canyon does not include year-round bus service through the canyon.
