Jennifer Johnson and Jenn SorbeUnveiling the MinistryIn May 2017, Mark, Jen Johnson's husband, was in a car accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury. This sudden hardship ultimately caused Mark to lose his job. The doctor told him he would die if he continued to work, and said he needed to live in complete darkness and silence if he ever wanted to heal. Mark and Jen had five children, and their sixth was born in August, three months later. Jen and the kids had to move into her parent's basement while Mark moved into a nearby relative's house to recover in a dark and silent basement, alone. Life became hard. Jen was thoroughly exhausted, and she was losing hope of ever getting out of the hole she saw them in. Early in 2018, Jenn Sorbe had two dreams with Mark in them that caused her to reach out to Jen Johnson. They knew each other from a church they both attended the previous year, but had each moved to different places far from one another. Jenn’s dreams struck her as odd, and she thought maybe she should reach out with a phone call to her old church acquaintance, not knowing all the Johnson family was now going through. Making the call, Jenn heard the cries of a Christian sister in great need of a friend to walk with through it all. Because of the dreams, she knew God was calling her to be that friend. With little experience–but a willing heart–Jenn stepped in to be an intercessor, a prayer warrior and a battle buddy. Throughout the next year, Jen and Jenn would build an unbreakable bond of friendship as they determined to trust one another, pray with and for one another, and learn to completely rely on the Lord for their strength and His wisdom. During that year, Jen and Jenn talked and prayed together nearly every day. The stuff Jen, Mark and the kids were going through was truly difficult. So, together with prayer, they battled through each new issue. Whatever it was, the friends prayed through it until they saw or experienced a breakthrough. Instead of the hardship breaking Jen, she was learning to lean even further on God and was being strengthened daily. Hope was growing in her heart. Over and over, the two would see answered prayers and realize that God is really awesome and really wants to be a part of our stories. In fact, He wants to heal our stories. Since they were praying so often and seeking God in everything, they were growing in their relationship with the Lord in huge ways. As they learned, they desired to share this new knowledge with others. Putting pen to paper, Johnson and Sorbe began to write what God was teaching them. With candor, humor, and powerful biblical truth, Johnson and Sorbe take you on a personal journey to learning how to be Open to God, how to Trust the Process when you don't have your prayers answered, and how to live with No Fear. Your Way is Stupid...there has to be a better way, was written as a conversational Bible study co-authored by Johnson & Sorbe (sore-bee). Though the title may shock some, nearly all of us can admit making “stupid” choices. Johnson and Sorbe speak at women's events and many of those ladies have shared how their message affected them powerfully to live out an active faith. Sometimes men attended or served during the events, and they also shared how much the message of "our way is stupid and God's way is better" influenced them in profound ways. It has been a growing journey for both Jen’s and their heart is to share the Gospel of Christ with anyone who will listen and teach them that there is so much more to this Christian Walk than many of us realize. "Many people in the Bible thought God’s way of doing things was stupid. Our book discusses stories like Lot, Jonah, Gideon, then we compare them to times in our own lives where we thought our way was better. Through three fundamental concepts of Open, Trust the Process, and No Fear, the reader will embark on a journey of learning to listen to God, trust Him, and boldly go forth no longer afraid about looking stupid in front of the “world."
