Description
Are you new to paddling? Have you never portaged a dam before? Are you nervous to join a paddle? THIS IS YOUR TRIP! You will gain confidence and make new friends, guaranteed! Please join me for a beginners trip on the Fox River. We will begin at Cornish Park in Algonquin and paddle to Voyager Landing in Elgin. The trip is 8 miles and takes about 4 hrs at about a 2 mile pace (that is a slow pace) We will meet @9:30am, drop boats and shuttle as a group. There will be 20-30 mins of land instruction on basic paddle strokes, what to do at the dam, what happens if you take an unexpected swim, and more. We will have front and back leads, no one is left behind! We will stop at Carpentersville Dam where you can rest/eat before beginning the second half of the trip. This is the LAST beginners paddle of 2022 and the carpentersville dam is being removed right after this. This is your last chance to experience this paddle. We are also joining with the Friends of the Fox River on 9/17. This is a day where many are doing paddles and cleanup events. This event has an optional donation that will go to Friends of the Fox and the $15 event fee covers day of insurance with a bit leftover to treat my leads to lunch for their hard work. What to bring: Kayak PFD (required to be worn!) Water Lunch/snack Sun screen & hat And whatever else you want to bring. Ensure keys, phones and personal items are in dry bags and secured in your boat. ***DUE TO THE SIZE/POPULARITY OF THIS PADDLE, A LIFE VEST/PFD WILL BE REQUIRED TO BE WORN BY EVERYONE*** Here is last years video of the paddle! https://youtu.be/DO7qyzfxWCA *there are no rental boats available for this paddle* Unfortunately no inflatable kayaks will be allowed on this event and children should be 10 yrs old at a minimum. Children must have a well fitting PFD and either have their own kayak or be in a tandem kayak. No lap children please, for safety.
