This workshop will consist of storytelling as an act of self care, meditation, and social consciousness. Attendees will dive into creative writing and self portraiture, interacting through engaging activities that will bring them closer to themselves and their story.
By arriving in this intentional, intimate space, you’ll leave with resources you can lean on in your everyday life to conjure up clarity and enlightenment. You will develop a personal mission statement and create a self portrait in collaboration with Riley Reed in the beautiful gardens of Commodore Perry. Moreover, you’ll discover that the beauty you have to cultivate is already within you.
Riley Reed is a multimedia storyteller, socially conscious artist and the creator of Woke Beauty, a photography movement, creative studio and self-actualization tool that celebrates the inherent resilience of women everywhere. Riley’s work serves to question the lenses of beauty and power. As a communication artist, she uses self-portraiture, thoughtful photography, and poetic prose to capture the world in a different light, one that centers life’s intersections, the experiences of women of color, and the curiosities behind our collective identities. Riley hosts a podcast, Woke Beauty, that illuminates the power of perspective through conversations with female visionaries and monologues about her mental health story and the tools she’s discovered to heal.
Over the years, her projects as a writer and photographer have been featured in publications like NPR StoryCorps, Forbes, FujiFilm, Camille Styles, and Tribeza. As a creative, she has worked with brands such as Gucci, LG, Gap, Unilever, Outdoor Voices, Madewell, and Fanm Djanm to create everything from social media campaigns to editorial spreads and life-size exhibitions.
