Description

Since 2017, Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) has been offering 8th district police officers another tool in their kits when responding to low-level offenses related to unmet social service needs-- and that alternative to arrest is intensive, low-barrier case management. LEAD is an innovative approach to community safety grounded in the belief that wellness and healing requires connection over punishment. The New Orleans LEAD team is honored to announce that we are expanding, and our next NOPD district will be the 7th, which includes all of New Orleans East. Join us on Wednesday, September 14 from 5:30 to 8pm at New Orleans East Opportunity Center at 12000 Hayne Blvd for an introductory event. Through a panel discussion followed by small group discussion over dinner, we will begin the conversation about who we are, what we do, and how residents in the East envision LEAD working for and with them. Moderated by Judge (ret.) Calvin Johnson, our panel guests include Catherine Rieder, Corinna Yazbek, Dr. Rochelle Head-Dunham, Tuere Burns, and Will Snowden. For questions, please contact Project Manager Marie Kerrin at [email protected].
