Join us on Monday, September 19 as we once again celebrate the ground breaking legacy of Edna Lewis for the first time since 2019!Foundation chairperson Mashama Bailey hosts this spectacular evening of culinary goodness, history and love, featuring three members of the Who's Who in southern cooking: Kenyatta Ashford from his restaurant Neutral Ground out of Chattanooga, Cleophus Hethington who recently hailed as executive chef from Benne on Eagle in Asheville , and The Grey's very own Trevor Elliot. And once again, we're thrilled to have Savannah's beloved Cheryl Day, who will be providing her legendary works of delicious art for our cake walk! Our board members will be in attendance to thank you for your support and tell you about the good work we're doing with our scholarship program, made possible by your generosity! The guiding spirit of The Foundation is its namesake, Chef Edna Lewis, an early champion of Southern cookery who helped educate and mentor generations of chefs and food enthusiasts while celebrating the African American culinary community and culture. Today an expanded Board of Trustees, led by Chairperson, Mashama Bailey, continues this legacy while providing new culinary programming, scholarships and training to serve an expanded Mission to honor and extend the legacy of Edna Lewis by creating opportunities for African Americans in the fields of cooking, agriculture, food studies, and storytelling. The Foundation advocates for the Southern tradition of the original farm-to-table lifestyle, eating with the seasons, a sense of community, and the satisfactory feeling that hard work is always rewarded by good food.
