Volunteer and unpaid internship (for academic credit only) opportunities are available for our Walk and Bike Smart Program at Ecology Action. The Walk and Bike Smart Program teaches elementary students about pedestrian and bike safety by providing a fun, educational, on-foot learning experience. Whether or not students walk or bike to school, learning the safety protocol is an essential and critical life skill. Our Walk and Bike Smart program is modeled after the best national practices. Volunteers who participate in the Walk and Bike Smart Program will assist Ecology Action Staff with instruction of bike and pedestrian safety training to 2nd and 5th-grade students (bike skills obstacle courses), set up obstacle courses using cones and chalk, and break down obstacle courses, help disinfect bikes and helmets after each use, help at community events during the weekend, and prepare materials for and assist with classroom presentations. Requirements: • Ability to work weekday mornings, typically 7:30 am-3:00 pm • Valid California Class C Driver’s License • A reliable personal vehicle and current automobile insurance • Minimum 18 years old • Background check, live scan, and negative Tuberculosis test required before volunteering/interning • Ability to work collaboratively with other team members • Punctual • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Highly organized and detail-oriented • Interest in working with and teaching youth • Interest in promoting sustainable or active transportation • Competence in Microsoft Word and Excel, web browsers, email Time Commitment: We ask the volunteer to commit to volunteering at least one day per month for six months. Interns 5-15 hours per week; minimum of 5 weeks commitment, from 7:30 am until 3:00 pm. Gain new skills in youth education and the environmental field while having fun teaching youth bike-pedestrian safety skills.
