Description

Our hand-trained cockatiel has been extremely unhappy since we moved to a new, smaller apartment and we no longer can keep him away from our dogs during the day, who will hassle him when he's out of his cage and he hisses at throughout the day. After two months of seeing him become more destructive and irritated, I can't stand to see him so unhappy, so I'd like to rehome him to a good home that will love him and provide him the safe, calm environment he deserves. Must be a home WITHOUT dogs or cats, or at least very quiet and no prey drive dogs/cats who are well acclimated to birds. Must also be a home that will provide for him for years. Cockatiels live for over 20 yrs, so no one looking to get a pet for their young child. He will be part of the family and should probably be in your will, and getting a bird as a test pet for a child is unreasonable. Look at hamsters. They only live 2-3 years. A rehoming fee of $50 will be requested, to prove you're serious about him, and you must meet him to make sure he's a good fit. It's incredibly irresponsible of me to have to rehome him, when I committed to him for life 3 years ago, and I don't want him having to go through this again. I can't afford my old accommodations where I could give him his own room, but it's not an option for me now. If I wasn't worried about his health declining, I'd never give him up, and I expect his new family to have a commitment to him. We will provide his cage, toys, and the remaining food. When happy, he's very well behaved and very loving. He likes to hang out on heads instead of shoulders, and loves kisses, but takes a while to warm up to being skritched with hands. He's fine with hanging out on hands, but doesn't like hands above his chest if he's not prepared for it and familiar with the hand. He's a handsome little guy with traditional coloring and a wonderful singer. He doesn't really like baths. When he's unhappy he screeches, doesn't want to be pet, will hiss and snap at hands and dogs, and is prone to night terrors, even during the day (which is why I'm worried about his health). He hasn't been picking at his feathers, but he's likely to break a wing or foot if his terrors aren't calmed down immediately (he's never broken anything before, but as he gets older, the risk is greater) He's not food driven, but loves snuggles, so he's hard to train, but very loving. He's also incredibly goofy and cute when he's out of his cage and feels comfortable wandering around. If he sounds like a good addition to your family and you can provide him a good, safe home for years to come, please reach out.
