Legal experts and former prosecutors are scrutinizing former President Donald Trump’s legal team as they continue to grapple with the fallout from the unprecedented FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago.
“They either seem completely incompetent or overwhelmed,” Renato Mariotti, a longtime former federal prosecutor, told Insider. “That’s part of the reason the former president is struggling to find lawyers: because he demands that they file documents and take positions that have no legal backing."
This week’s mockery of Trump’s legal team comes after they filed a lawsuit on Monday seeking the appointment of a special master to screen potentially privileged documents seized during the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid earlier this month.
A lawyer familiar with the Trump team’s thought process expressed skepticism that the former president’s lawyers are equipped to handle a case like this, adding that Trump’s primary goal appears to be to wage a public relations war against the Department of Justice.
