Strongwoman competitor, Laura Carter, caught the attention of local documentary artists and the result is a short film being presented for the first time at a blowout event in the heart of Burlington, VT.
Laura's journey training for Nationals has been a wonderful story of perseverance, self-belief, and women holding space for other woman. Along the way she has served as a role model and inspired several Green Mountain Community Fitness members to pursue the sport of Strongwoman, bringing the powerful message that it is ok to simply do things because you want to!
Synopsis:
Taking Up Space is a short documentary following Vermont plus-size powerlifter Laura Carter as she trains for the USS Nationals “Strongman” competition while overcoming the tragic loss of her cousin to Huntington's disease. Laura's journey is a true testament to women's perseverance in battling emotional and physical hardship all while facing a male-dominated sport.
