CELEBRATE THE START OF THE MONARCH MIGRATION WITH US!The 2022 Monarch Palooza hosted by the North Park Village Nature Center in partnership with Organic Oneness invites you and your family to come on down and join in on the celebration, educational opportunities, vendors and nature trails. We'll continue the tradition of amplifying the indigenous voices who share a socio-cultural connection with the Monarch butterfly with our special guest- the Purépecha Indigenous group of Michoacán, Mexico! No purchase necessary, this event is free admission and open to all. FOR MORE INFORMATIONFor event questions please contact [email protected], for nature center related questions please contact the director:[email protected] ABOUT MONARCH BUTTERFLIES Every year these incredible pollinators begin their annual migration south, a journey that takes over four distinct generations, three continents and a whole year! Currently monarch are taking flight all over North American, testing out their new wings as they prepare for their migration south. This migration is one of the longest taken by an insect over 2,880 miles total! In November they will arrive at their overwintering sites in central Mexico, there native populations and farmers await their return. The native population consider the Monarch to be departed souls that return to visit, and it signals harvest time for the farmers. What's your connection to this butterfly and other pollinators? Do you know how essential pollinators are to our lives? Come and find out at the Monarch Palooza. ABOUT THE NATURE CENTERNorth Park Village Nature Center's 46-acre preserve is open daily from 9am-4pm except seasonal and holiday schedules. Parking and entry to the preserve and Nature Center are free. The mission of North Park Village Nature Center is to provide visitors with an opportunity to interact with and learn about wildlife and natural resources in an urban setting. There are programs, events and activities for all ages to enjoy while discovering our shared natural heritage at the first nature center within the city of Chicago. Open 7 days a week from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (excluding certain observed holidays). Whether you seek serenity, a place to spot a rare bird, or a place to volunteer your time and talent, visit this oasis of nature in the city – this hidden gem.
