Millions of Americans are quietly battling with mental health issues each year. Mental health awareness aims to destigmatize, open up conversation, and educate on mental health treatments, conditions, and more. Many individuals do not seek treatment for mental illness due to the associated stigma. 46 percent of Americans will meet the criteria for a diagnosable mental health condition sometime in their life. There are many factors that can contribute to mental illness, including physical illness, genetics, injury, traumatic experience, and more. Mental Health America (MHA) is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit organization. MHA is dedicated to promoting mental health and mental health prevention through advocacy, education, research, and services. MHA works tirelessly to protect the rights and dignity of all individuals. Through the darkness, light will lead the way. Join us for a night of walking, activities, fun, and more! Proceeds from this event will be donated directly to MHA. Registration will begin at 5:30 PM the evening of the eventSame day registration will be available at the event for $25T- shirts, glow sticks, luminaries, snacks/drinks, tickets for games and chances for raffle baskets will be available for purchase at the event. Cash is highly encouraged. Can’t attend the event , but would like to purchase a luminary? Luminaries can be purchased through this website. Just include what you would like the luminary to say at checkout and we will handle the rest!Donations to the event can be made by clicking “Register” at the top of the event page.Lights at the track will be dimmed in order to allow our participants to light the way in honor of mental health awareness. Please dress to glow for the occasion!There is no set distance that you have to walk at the event. We highly encourage you to walk as much or as little as you would like. Parking will be available at the WVU Student Rec Center.No changes to the event will occur due to inclement weather. The back of the event t-shirt can be seen below. We hope to see you there!
