DETROIT — A 5-year-old boy has died after police said he accidentally shot himself in the face Monday night in a Detroit home. Police said the young boy was playing with the unsecured gun in the bedroom of a home on Oakfield Avenue near 8 Mile Road and the Southfield Freeway. The gun went off and shot the young boy in the eye, police said. Somebody in the house or neighborhood took the boy was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. Police also believe a 6-year-old child was in the bedroom when the gun went off. The child was not injured in the shooting, police said. Police were still looking for the gun the child was playing with and were still investigating the shooting. No further details were provided. This is a developing story. Stay with Patch for updates
