PINELLAS COUNTY, FL —After being selected as part of the pilot program to provide vaccines to skilled nursing facilities, Pinellas County announced that it was provided the Pfizer vaccines to 68 facilities, immunizing 6,700 staff and residents. Additionally, the county has provided vaccines to emergency medical service, fire rescue and other health care personnel. More than 12,300 people have been vaccinated in the Pinellas County to date. The county will offer both a first and second dose of the vaccine in the skilled nursing facilities starting next week in a continuation of the pilot program. Its next priority is setting a vaccine plan for those who are 65 years old or older. The county will launch this effort on Tuesday, Jan. 5. The reservation system is expected to go live at noon on Monday, Jan. 4. The county will provide information on how to reserve a time at a designated vaccination location once those details become available. As of Saturday, 45,246 residents have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began with 3,328 hospitalized and 1,052 deaths. On Friday, 417 residents tested positive. On Thursday, 885 residents tested positive. In the past seven days, 3,262 residents tested positive for the coronavirus. The current positivity rate in Pinellas County is 10.11 percent.
