I'm interested in putting together a band, and moving towards something like world music. I have my own flavors that incorporate southern blues sensibility, African and Cuban rhythms, horns, and strong vocal harmonies. "World Music" seems to be the best general description of what I have in mind, thought not everything will fit in that genre.
I'm looking for a multi-instrumentalist type who maybe can play parts on keyboard, guitar, percussion, bass, etc.. as needed. If you're a strong singer that's a plus. If you're good with words and lyrics also a plus.
I'm interested in collaboration, not just writing everything myself. I like to play around and explore, yet make the effort to produce finished works. The idea is to start fleshing out original songs and to start bringing in other musicians, with the two of us filling in the gaps during that process. The idea of putting together a full band is a little overwhelming to me so I thought this might be the way to start.
To give a sense of my own music, here's an unmixed piece I laid down the other day. I woke up and heard the a line and laid this down in about an hour. It's a little too busy as is, but it gives a sense of one direction I tend to go in: https://soundcloud.com/jdnicollband/early-morning-line
On that I'm playing Native American flute, bass, organ, some percussion, Kora (via VST), horns (again VST).
Here's a couple other pieces I've written recently:
