Description
Have you ever wondered what goes into getting a movie financed? Join us in this interactive and hands-on Professional Edge workshop to learn about the business side of the film industry. Participants will have a chance to learn from industry insiders about the considerations they make when developing a budget and pitching to potential investors, including a discussion with film industry business plan expert Louise Levison, as well as Director Rick Pamplin and Producer Maggie Pamplin of Movie Money Confidential. During the workshop, participants will be guided through building a basic budget around their own film concept as part of a project team. Teams will then participate in a competition to pitch their project to a panel. KDMG has pledged to work with the winning team after the workshop to fully develop their pitch, deck, and budget and provide guidance on finding funding*. All participants will leave the workshop having developed tools and confidence for pitching an idea to potential investors. Registration is open to all UO students and no prior experience in the film industry is required. The skills learned in this workshop are transferable into other creative and entertainment industries as well, such as journalism, publishing, commercials, and music. To get the most out of this experience, registrants are expected to watch Movie Money Confidential prior to the workshop and will be emailed a screening link in advance. In signing up for the workshop, registrants are committing to attending both days (Thursday, October 13th from 6-8:30pm in Lillis 312 and Friday, October 14th from 9:30am –4:30pm in Chiles 125B). *There is no guarantee that the winning project will get funded. However, if the film is ultimately financed and completed, KDMG will distribute the film worldwide.
