The American Revolution is not a classic story about good and evil. Rather, it is a messy saga that pitted father against son, brother against sister, and neighbor against neighbor. In this civil war, the unlikeliest of rebels – people like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin – chose the side of revolution, while other, equally unlikely candidates remained steadfast to the Crown. Join us for a chat with H.W. Brands on his new book, which explores the emotional turmoil that came with such a revolution in a story that Nathaniel Philbrick says “speaks compellingly to our current age of division and discord.” H.W. Brands will be joining us for the discussion virtually. Book Group meetings for 2022-23 will be hybrid at the Depot and on Zoom. Socially distanced seating will be available.
