Description

We are pleased to announce that the Village of Tarrytown has been selected to host the 2022 Climate-adaptive Design (CaD) studio, a student-driven design process that will focus on our Hudson River waterfront. The CaD studio links Cornell University Landscape Architecture students with Hudson riverfront communities to explore design ideas for more climate-resilient and connected waterfront areas. Throughout the fall semester, this graduate-level class will investigate the Tarrytown waterfront. Student teams will produce waterfront designs that strive to meet the needs of the community for public access, recreation, and connectivity, as well as ecological and climate resilience. To learn more, visit the CaD studio page on the Village’s website. We invite you to participate in this initial event as a community stakeholder in the CaD studio. September 9th will be the students’ first visit to Tarrytown as a class, and will include two meetings, a daytime and an evening meeting, for community members participate. The meetings include an opportunity for participants to learn about the CaD studio and to share information about the Tarrytown waterfront with the students. In addition to the formal meeting, we invite participants to share a meal and engage in conversations with the students to give them further insights into Tarrytown. The students’ understanding of the host community is greatly enhanced by small group and one-on-one conversations, so we hope you’ll join us for a shared meal. Draft agenda: 10:30-11:15 am: introductions and presentations11:15-12:30 pm: group discussion with city stakeholders and partners12:30-1:30 pm: optional one-on-one conversations and lunch with focused topicsThere will also be an evening meeting, the same day, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, with optional buffet dinner served from 5:00-6:00 pm, and dessert from 7:30-8:00 pm. In October, a design workshop for stakeholders to provide feedback on the students’ design concepts will be held. An open house to share students’ final designs will be held in December.
