Description
We’ve recently visited Tuscany and France, but summer vacation is over and we’re back stateside with some California wines this month! We hope you can join us as we taste 5 California wines. We’ll start a little north with a Chardonnay out of Mendocino County and then work our way down to Sonoma for the selection of Reds, tasting a few different varietals, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and a red blend. Sonoma County has quite a long history of wine production, with the first grapes being planted by Russian colonists in 1812. Sonoma has 19 recognized appellations, many of which you are likely familiar with, such as Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley. Surviving phylloxera and prohibition, wine production grew significantly through the mid-20th century, now with over 60 grape varieties (the most common being Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir), and has become an $11 billion local industry comprising over 40% of Sonoma County’s GDP.
