LABORER / CARPENTER’S HELPER Objectives: Prepare sites for various construction tasks and assist with those in progress. Keep jobsites safe and clean. Responsibilities: 1. Perform tasks as assigned by superintendent. May include excavation, demolition, carrying supplies and materials, setting up and breaking down workstations, minor carpentry, tool maintenance, punch list tasks, assisting trade contractors, etc. 2. Report any problems, damage, hazardous conditions, and oversights to superintendent. 3. Keep jobsites clean. Make sure debris is contained in proper dumpsters. Do exterior pick-up and interior sweeping/tidying once a day (or more often, as directed by superintendent). 4. Help superintendent receive material deliveries. Unload trucks and stack and store materials. Protect lumber and other large materials from exposure to weather. 5. De-ice, shovel snow, and supply heat to homes under construction in winter. 6. Install and remove temporary sidewalks and stairwell railings. 7. Make sure excavated areas, trenches, and holes are marked for safety Qualifications: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following skills: 1. Construction experience preferred. 2. Must have a valid drivers license. Able to drive truck with trailer a bonus! 3. Ability to safely operate a variety of manual and power tools: Saws, hammers, nailers, etc. 4. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence and communicate verbally. 5. Oral Communication – Listens and gets clarification; responds well to questions. 6. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 7. Teamwork – Exhibits objectivity and openness to others’ views; contributes to building a positive team spirit. 8. Quality – Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality. 9. Safety and Security – Observes safety and security procedures; reports potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly. 10. Adaptability – Able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. 11. Attendance/Punctuality – Is consistently at work and on time. 12. Dependability – Follows instructions, responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions. 13. Must have valid drivers license. Experience driving truck with trailer a plus. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
