PRINCETON, NJ — The year 2020 has been a tough one for families across the United States. As the coronavirus pandemic ravaged through communities, many lost loved ones and were forced to say their goodbyes from a distance. But amidst the heartbreak and despair came moments of hope and resilience. People from all walks of life stepped up to lend a helping hand to their neighbors. At Patch we began our search to highlight stories of "everyday heroes" - those who despite the risks came to the aid of others, in big ways and small. Through this initiative with Ring, we were able to hear from our neighbors about these outstanding people and their stories. Cherry Hill Woman's Costumes Keeps Spirits Up At Nursing Home: At a South Jersey long-term facility that was hit hard by the pandemic, the activities director dresses up in colorful costumes to lift the spirits of residents. 'Provided A Port In A Storm' - Summit Hero: A local chef inspires the neighborhood by providing meals to the elderly and sick during the pandemic. 83-Year-Old EMT Still Saving Lives Amid COVID-19 Pandemic: When the pandemic hit, an 83-year-old retired EMT, continued volunteering his service to the community despite significant risk to his health. Works With Families On Food Delivery - Jefferson Hero: The pandemic exacerbated food insecurity in many communities. This Jefferson community organizer worked with over 400 families in need. Newark Heroes: He Does Homeless Outreach, 'Always Lends A Hand': A local contractor helped the homeless during the pandemic.
