Summary The Electro-Mechanical Assembler - Soldering will perform a variety of electronic assembly tasks with an emphasis on hand-soldering of complex multi-layer printed circuit boards.  Essential Functions - Perform through-hole assembly and related fine pitch hand-soldering on complex multi-layer printed circuit board per IPC and J-STD criteria - Proficient at electronic component soldering in accordance with IPC-610, Class 3 (target condition) criteria. - Perform hand-placement of fine-pitch devices - Connect component lead wires to printed circuit or routes and connects wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points. - Adjust or trim materials from components to achieve specified electrical or dimensional characteristics - Perform in process quality assurance activities and inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards. - Read work orders and follow production drawings or received verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed - Document all worked operations in the ERP system in an accurate and timely manner. This includes documenting the job/operation, documenting the time, and indicating conformance (including written comments to document/clarify transactions)   Education, Experience, and Skills - HS Diploma or GED required. Technical school preferred - 3+ years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - Familiar with IPC 600, 610, and 620 Class 3 criteria - Familiar with JSTD-001 criteria - Knowledge of SMT and through-hole assembly required. - Familiar with Moisture Sensitive Devices care and control in accordance with IPC standards. - Skilled in manual soldering of leads, connectors and magnetic devices to multilayer printed wiring boards - Knowledgeable in SMT process materials such as solder alloys, pastes, flux types, epoxies, masks, cleaners for both - - ROHS lead free and leaded assembly processes in accordance with IPC and/or other specified standards. - Proficiency in the use of various equipment including soldering irons, hot air pencils, preheaters, calipers, microscopes, prepping machines, fixtures, torque drivers, ionograph, and aqueous cleaning machines - Must be able to work using a microscope for extended periods of time. - Must have sufficient English communication skills to understand verbal and written instructions, communicate with other employees both verbally and in writing, follow directions and tasks lists, and participate in departmental team meetings and required training classes About MEI  We are a successful, growing contract design and manufacturing company  located in the Carlsbad Research Center We are a mid-size company (70 employees) with a small company “family” feel We serve the semiconductor, medical, aerospace, and defense industries; our customers are industry leaders in their fields and we pride ourselves on the quality of service we provide We are very vertically integrated; our capabilities include:  machining, high-purity welding, cleanroom, PCB, box build, and design engineering What we offer: Medical, dental, vision, voluntary benefits  PTO plan with paid winter shut down Supportive work/life balance culture 401k   ITAR Requirements This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
