Description
The pitch: We're hiring Landscaper / Gardener. We run an innovative company that pays a living wage ($18-$30), is well-grounded, and has professional development opportunities. Sometimes we work 2-3 sites in a day. All our job sites are on the east side. There are 2 other people on the crew, already. We are growing fast, and can start you within a week of sending your references to us. The candidate: Has 1+ year work in landscaping, tree work, arborist, ground crew, farming, gardening, DIY, arts, theater, carpentry, habitat restoration, or related work. GED required, some college preferred. The work: We maintain gardens, flower gardens, build rain gardens, dig yard drainage, transform yards, and more. We take breaks, hydrate, and work in the shade when possible. We pull weeds, dig holes, use mechanical advantage, plant flowers, move heavy stuff like lumber and tree limbs, unload soil and mulch from the company truck and move it around in a 2-wheeled farm cart (like a wheelbarrow, but without the tipping risk). We emphasize safety, ergonomics, and efficiency. Professional development: We'll pay for admission to conferences and trainings, on the condition the attendee teaches us what they learned. We'll talk through how your work contributes to the overall project. We'll train you on a wide variety of garden, plant, and tree skills - as we work. The leadership: "I have more work than I can accomplish alone. I'm COVID vaccinated, and I reserve the right to implement a mask mandate on job sites. I intend to assemble a crew that believes in science, cares about the health of our town, and trusts public health officials." About the company: Established in 2018. We work 30-40 hours per week. We start at 8am, and finish between 3pm-6pm. Overtime eligibility starts at the 8 hour mark of any work day - which exceeds Oregon standards on overtime that only require OT after 40 hours. Company culture: We're proud that we consider the impact of our decisions on workers, clients, colleagues, suppliers, our state, and the environment. We prefer permaculture methods but can't always use them. We value creativity, and if you know how to get something done better than the rest of us - we'll ask you to teach us your method. We practice a "growth mindset". We collaborate. We reward initiative and innovation. We run this company like we care about workers and people. We are building an alternative to "fat cat" landscaping companies. Email me a paragraph about why you want to join the crew. Qualified folks will be contacted for references. Thanks!
