Description

These are the only evening tours that we do of the Homestead, they will be offered only on select weekend nights this October. The 17th century homestead sits on 25+ beautiful acres in the heart of what was known as Salem Village in 1692 (today the town of Danvers), and is the only home of a Witch Trials victim open to the public. The event begins at sunset; Guests will be invited to walk along the tree lined path to the back of the property (300 yards), to the ancient Nurse Family Cemetery. It has been a longstanding family tradition that Rebecca Nurse's son and husband retrieved her body after her execution and secretly buried it here. It also holds the only confirmed burial site of someone executed during the Witch Trials; George Jacobs. (If anyone in your party has trouble walking they are welcome to skip this portion of the program) The circa 1678 house was occupied by Rebecca Nurse and then members of the Nurse family until 1798. Here you will hear the story of the Nurse family and her accusation of witchcraft. As you wander through the candle lit home you will be able to imagine what it was like living here 330 years ago. Please plan extra travel time as added traffic in October could delay arrival, also prepare for any kind of weather, temperatures can be unpredictable in October. Guests should plan to be on site approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour for this program.Due to limited entry tickets and high demand for tickets in October, refunds will only be given with 48 hours notice. Any questions please call (978)774-8799.
