Description

The City of Belmont is hosting a Bike Safety Day (geared toward elementary-aged kids) and a Community Bike Tour to the Bay Trail afterward (for all ages, but must be skilled at riding on streets), see details here: https://www.belmont.gov/Home/Components/Calendar/Event/7471/155. For older kids (and their parents) and anyone who wants to join Belmont's Bike Tour to the Bay Trail, a group will meet at 10:15am in front of Central Middle School in San Carlos on Saturday, Aug 27 to ride together to Barrett Community Center in Belmont to join Belmont's Community Ride to the Bay Trail. Make sure your tires are pumped up, bikes are in good working condition and bring plenty of water and a snack if you need it. Come a little early if you need to pump up your tires and don't forget a helmet. We'll be riding midday so it might be hot, consider appropriate clothing for the weather and sunscreen. Riders should be comfortable and skilled at riding safely on streets in a group, because we'll ride on some streets that don't have bike lanes, where the lane is shared with vehicles. Parents, please accompany youth riders, and review safe riding on streets with them beforehand. (For tips, check out the bike safety review slides at www.bikesandbricks.org) The first part of the ride, from Central Middle School to Belmont, is about a 15-20 minute ride, so we'll take off by 10:30 a.m. At 11:00 a.m. we'll join Belmont's Barrett-to-the Bay-Trail Community Bike Tour, accompanied by their public works staff and police department, which will be a 45-60 minute ride to the Bay Trail and back to Barrett Community Center. At the end of the Belmont Bike Tour, those who want to can ride back to San Carlos together, or you can ride back on your own. Questions? Email or text Sonia, 415.806.4632.
