Description

We'd like to invite you to join us in a Community Dinner and Celebration on August 24th where youth, parents, community organizations, and the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids will come together to share a meal and dialogue over tobacco use and its impact on the community. This Community Dinner, held at the Wisconsin African American Center will kick off our two-day youth training program in Milwaukee as part of the TakeDown Tobacco Youth Advocacy Tour, where youth will learn skills to take on the tobacco industry and fight for social and health justice. During this dinner and celebration, we will be recognizing Representative Gwen Moore, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin, County Executive David Crowley, Rep. David Bowen, Pastor Martin Childs, Deacon Melvin Reese, and Sandeep Gill! During the Dinner and Celebration, guests will partake in a screening of the highly acclaimed Black Lives/Black Lungs, a short film documenting Big Tobacco's decades-long campaign to transform menthol into a "Black" cigarette. Following the screening, we will host a discussion on the impacts of flavored tobacco use in communities most impacted by Big Tobacco's marketing and manipulation – Indigenous, Black, Hispanic/Latino (Latinx), LGBTQ+ community groups, etc. Guest will be encouraged to share perspectives on the impact tobacco has on your community, schools, and families. The dinner & celebration is free of charge and we will be providing youth participants with school supplies while they last. We ask that registrants are currently vaccinated and/or have tested negative for covid within 24 hours of the event. Masks are strongly encouraged while not actively eating or drinking. We hope you can join us! Please RSVP by Friday, August 23rd.
