Description
On Sunday, September 4, the JWE together with the JCC Chicago, will be hosting an inspirational event, “Breaking Ceilings”, with guest speaker Judge Ruchie Freier. The honorable Judge will be sharing an uplifting and inspiring account of her life story, being the first Chassidic Jewish Woman elected as a civil court Judge in NY State and to serve in public office in United States history. She is now running for King’s County Supreme Court Judge, as recently featured in the NY Post. https://nypost.com/2022/07/31/ny-hasidic-judge-rachel-freier-eyes-kings-county-supreme-court/ Judge Ruchie Freier also founded Ezras Nashim, the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in New York City, despite the mounting adversity that she faced as a Chassidic woman. Ezras Nashim, comprised of dedicated Orthodox Jewish women, is a grassroots organization that has made headlines and been the subject of the documentary 93 Queen. https://youtu.be/_XWSxGJ4aNA The values that guide Ezras Nashim’s goals of service are quite basic, maintaining women’s dignity in an emergency, exhibiting compassion and sensitivity, and affording options of choice when women need it the most, all while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and expertise. Judge Freier’s personal mission and message are to encourage women to step into their roles as female leaders, while also honoring the role of motherhood and building a home. This passion has led her to where she is today and has been an inspiration to women worldwide. As recently quoted by Judge Freier, “My life is always campaigning for something, pushing for something. I was pushing to help the women start their own EMT group. Then I had to become the director. Then I was pushing to run for civil court. Then I was pushing for the organization to get their ambulance license. Now I’m pushing to go to the supreme court. Is this my destiny? I always seem to be pushing for something.” The evening will conclude with a 30-minute Q&A session, inviting the audience to ask for advice, gain clarity, and weigh in on the honorable Judge's view on life, motherhood, and the challenges we face as a broader Jewish community.
