Join Reverie Books in partnership with Captain Quackenbush's Soundspace for a night of storytelling and books as we celebrate two new books to benefit nonprofits providing refugee services in Central Texas: Plated Stories and Truth in our Stories. Contributors to both books will be present to share their own stories and raise awareness of the work to support refugees and immigrants where we live, right here in Austin. PLATED STORIES is a gorgeous, full color cookbook. It features over 20 stories and 50 recipes shared by refugees, survivors of trafficking and asylum seekers across the state of Texas. THE TRUTH IN OUR STORIES is a book that presents twelve compelling stories highlighting the immigrant experience, centering the voices of immigrants in their own words. These stories challenge the public narrative about immigrants and dismantle the myths that lead to their persecution. While the stories shared in this book are full of hardship, the immigrants who share them shine with resilience and fortitude. As the fight for immigrant rights continues unfolding, we hope this book will help restore a sense of shared humanity and passion for dignity and justice for immigrant neighbors. ​Listen to these voices; the truth is right here in our stories. Austin Region Justice for Our Neighbors (ARJFON), a non-profit law office, welcomes refugees and immigrants into our communities by providing free, high-quality immigration legal services, education, and advocacy. Refugee Services of Texas serves refugees, asylees, individuals with Special Immigrant Visas, Cuban-Haitian entrants, Central American minors, survivors of human trafficking, and other vulnerable populations.
