CU Upcycling Bonanza with Haus of Karma // DOES THIS LOOK LIKE TRASH TO YOU? Campaign DATE: Wednesday, August 24, 5:30-8pm LOCATION: Anita Purves Nature Center (1505 N. Broadway Urbana, IL 61801) TOPIC: There are two main shadow sides related to sustainability in the fashion industry; pollution created from quick consumption and over production and slavery complexes in supply chains related to labor and wages. HAUS OF KARMA is on a mission to pump the circular economy and sovereignty movements in fashion and has paired up with Urbana Parks & Recreation during CLIMATE CHANGE WEEK to put on an UP-CYCLING BONANZA to offer the community an opportunity to join HAUS OF KARMA'S upcycling initiative and offer spaces to learn how to give new life to already created things by adding art to clothing and customizing it; avoiding the trash can and landing a new favorite personalized lifetime item in your closet! There will be 'en Haus' artists on site to offer styling advice and recommend the best ways to up-cycle an item to your liking either by adding art or tailoring. You will have the opportunity to try items on before deciding to up-cycle or take them home with you. *YOU may also bring something from home that you already own to up-cycle! 'En Haus' artist Krissy Goines owner of Pine Arts & Brands will be sharing free plants and offering styling consultations throughout the evening. When you arrive you can choose your materials and what you'd like to do and then go explore and create your up-cycled item like you're on a fun adventure. This event is great for kids and adults middle school maturity aged and older. The event is free admission to the public with paid activations throughout the space depending on how you would like to participate and if you find any upcycling fabrics to purchase to create with. There will be a 'free' clothing rack available to choose a 'canvas' for the evening from then you'll only pay for what you choose to paint or up-cycle. Painting pricing details coming soon! But all details will be available when you arrive to make sure you have the most fun during your evening. PRISM PAINT STUDIOS Prism Studios will be there with paint supplies for an affordable rate, so you can add the value of art decor on items like jeans, bags and more! Paint at your pace participation cost: *details coming soon* MUSIC @thediscotheory - groovy music Amanda Wallace is the owner of the disco theory, she's awesome and super groovy! FOOD Bring your own food! There will be some snack options available. Forms of payment accepted: Cash, Zelle, Venmo, Paypal, Cashapp, card is accepted but not preferred. QR code self check out is the preferred way to pay. @hausofkarma.superbia operates as a fashion business school that doubles as a small business incubator that runs an upcyclery - a sustainability in fashion alleviation effort pumped by community social gatherings and special interest group participation.
